Sound2Vision is the first
real-time intersenses visualization
producer in the world and based
on the mutual conversion formula
between sound and color. Actually,
there have been lots of attempts
to visualize the changes in
sound since the 17th century-the
connection keyboard that came
with a light to the invention
of several devices such as the
oscillograph, the graphic equalizer
indicator, VJ software, the
recent music play software with
some 3D visualization plug-in,
etc. However, these attempts
are limited, since either they
depend on an arbitrary color
mapping to sound, or only one
or two combinations of sound
characters (stereo, pitch, volume,
scale, et cetera) correspond
to a repeat movie subjectively.
Sound2Vision is based on the
theory that music sensibility
and sound recognition arise
from the difference in log scale
spectrum, harmony and octave.
We applied this principle to
color range. Therefore sound2vision
can visualize all characters
of sound and even provoke emotions
melted in sound such as brightness,
gloom, etc.
Since the
Middle Ages, there have been
a lot of attempts to interconnect
light and sound by many people
who feel same qualities and
features between them. In spite
of the difference of how to
express, music and art have
common things as kind of art
to express human being's feeling
and use the right brain with
power of intuition. However,
until now these attempts have
depended on only artist's subject
and sense and have made this
a field of artists' own, because
they failed to approach sound
and color physically and find
the scientific relation between
them.
Sound and color
have the same characteristics
of wave to be resonated, amplified,
interfered and cancelled physically.
We could find the key to utilize
light harmonically with the
theory of musical scale and
harmonics which have already
systematized physical and mathmatical
phenomena in music. Interconnection
of sound and color comes to
harmonizing art and music, and
reproducing the new communication
way such as color in sound or
sound in color.

The mutual conversion program
of sound and color is based
on the conversion formula from
HarmoniColor System co., ltd.
and change sound or color wave
into numeral data and convert
it to corresponding color or
sound. The longest wave is 'Do'
in an octave and 'Red' in the
threshold of visibility. We
fix 'Do' and 'Red' as the same
datum point on spectrum and
calculate corresponding colors
according to the specific ratio
between sound waves - that is
to say, we apply Harmonics in
music to color scale. For instance,
The wave ratio of each 'Do',
'Mi', 'Sol' is equal to that
of 'Red, Green, Blue', so we
say that a cord to be heard
pleasantly is to be seen pleasantly.
The
conversion theory of sounds
and colors : The physical character
of wave, like that resonance,
amplification, interference
and cancellation, can be applied
all the wave range. The threshold
of audibility (10 octave), 20
Hz ~ 20000 Hz can be equivalent
to the threshold of audibility
(1 octave), 390 THz ~ 750 THz
